Katherine Short Suicide-Death: Martin Short Daughter Sadly Passed Away at 42

Recent reports circulating online claim that Katherine Hartley Short, daughter of acclaimed actor Martin Short, has passed away at the age of 42. According to statements attributed to a family representative and cited by media outlets, the Short family is said to be mourning the loss and has requested privacy during this deeply difficult time.

“The Short family is devastated by this loss, and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world,” a representative reportedly stated.

Some outlets have further reported that emergency services responded to a residence in Hollywood Hills, California, on Monday evening following a 911 call. The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed responding to a reported shooting at approximately 6:41 p.m., where a woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. Additional reports have alleged that the death may have been self-inflicted; however, official confirmation from authorities regarding the cause and circumstances has not been publicly detailed beyond initial emergency response statements.

Katherine was the adopted daughter of Martin Short and his late wife, Nancy Dolman, who passed away from cancer in 2010. The couple, married for 30 years, also adopted two sons, Oliver Patrick and Henry Hayter.

According to previously published biographical information, Katherine graduated from New York University in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and gender sexuality studies. She later earned her master’s degree in social work from the University of Southern California in 2010. Professionally, she worked as a social worker in private practice and was reportedly affiliated with Amae Health, a psychotherapy outreach clinic. She was also involved with Bring Change 2 Mind, an organization focused on reducing the stigma surrounding mental health.

Though largely private, Katherine occasionally accompanied her father to public events over the years, including industry gatherings and charity functions.

As of now, the family has requested privacy, and no further official details have been released. Anyone struggling with thoughts of self-harm or emotional distress is encouraged to seek immediate support through local crisis services or mental health professionals.
