The community of Hammond is grieving the tragic loss of Javion Steptoe, 18, who was fatally shot early Sunday morning in a drive-by incident on the Interstate 55 northbound entrance ramp at University Avenue.
According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 2:00 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, authorities located two vehicles stopped on the ramp. Javion Steptoe was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two other individuals present were unharmed. Investigators believe the vehicles had pulled over when a third vehicle drove past and opened fire.
